Telemedical Monitoring for Android

Background and Motivation:

Today the use mobile devices, such as mobile phones, for healthcare services become more and more popular in the world. There are several directions of application development in this area: illness guides, disease and epidemic outbreak tracking, remote diagnostic and treatment support of patients. Remote monitoring systems provide real-time tracking of patients' vital signs such as ECG, blood pressure, orientation, weight, and so on. These data are analyzed to indicate abnormal conditions and generate appropriate signals for doctors.
The essential obstacle for wide implementation of such applications is a variety of different operating systems of smartphones. On the one hand, there are strict standards for medical equipment development, which provide good level of interoperability, on the other hand, there is a variety of development tools available for different mobile platforms. It slows down development of complete and complex solutions for mobile healthcare. One of solutions for the problem is the use of cross-platform frameworks and libraries. The application based on such libraries can be easily ported across platforms.

Project Summary:

The project is intended to porting of the existing telemedical monitoring application for Maemo, developed in MSU, to Android platform. The main features of the application would be the following:

1. Measuring and collection of physiological state of the patient:

 • Electrocardiography
 • Position in space
 • Arterial pressure
 • Body weight

2. Collection of additional data about the patient:

 • Patient's voice diary
 • Facts of medication registration

3. Storage of measurements and monitoring events in a local database

4. Analytical processing of electrocardiograms

5. Interaction with dedicated healthcare services

Project goals and future research directions:

1. Develop a full-featured m-Health application for Android on the base of the existing application for Maemo.

2. Examine on how Necessitas project is suitable for Qt-based development on Android platform.
