PhD positions at CTTC, Barcelona, Spain

The Centre Tecnològic de Telecomunicacions de Catalunya (CTTC) is an  advanced research center on Information Technologies and Communications based in Castelldefels, Barcelona. Current research areas include Wireless Communications, Access Technologies, Communication Subsystems, Optical Networking, IP Technologies and Intelligent Energy .
The CTTC offers four-year PhD fellowships to carry out a PhD thesis within one of the active research lines. For more information about these research lines, the interested candidates can go here.

Recent advances in the field of wireless networks have moved them beyond their traditional areas of application to a much broader scope. They form a space where users can access a number of wireless technologies to interact with various services. All these layers form a smart environment that can harmonize a number of technologies at each architectural layer to provide the best user experience.

This conference will explore and explain the scope and challenges of smart spaces. The 10th International Conference on Next Generation Wired/Wireless Advanced Networking NEW2AN 2010

Next-generation mobile networks will evolve out of existing wired and wireless networks of different nature by means of convergence, fusion and mutual penetration; next-generation multimedia services in turn pose new requirements and challenges on treatment of traffic within communication systems - a certain degree of multilayer co-operation has to be achieved. This forms a framework on harmonization of results obtained separately in different areas of network research like network performance evaluation, architecture and protocol design, and low layer network design. The conference goal is in the identification, investigation and integration of new algorithms, approaches, architectures, methods and mechanisms to enable proper and efficient operation of a next-generation IP-based wireless network. Therefore, wireless networks and their interaction with wired networks shall be widely examined and addressed throughout the conference.

The history of NEW2AN dates back to 1993, today it is an established conference featured by proceedings published by Springer LNCS (confirmed) and distinguished keynote speakers.

The Annual International Workshop on Advances in Methods of Information and Communication Technology (AMICT’2010)

International Master's Degree Programme in IT: Tampere University of Technology, the FRUCT partner program

Tampere University of Technology (Finland), the FRUCT partner program calls for applications for International M.Sc. Programme in Information Technology.

EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS

The applicant must have a 3- or 4-year Bachelor of Science degree from an internationally recognised university, which has to be listed in the latest edition of the International Handbook of Universities. The B.Sc. degree should be in the field of computing, information technology, electrical engineering, computer science or another discipline related to the programme, entailing proficiency in mathematics, physics and computer science.

Qt winter school 2010

CFP in Fourth International Conference on Cognitive Science

June 22-26th, 2010, Tomsk, Russia

The conference aims to organize a multidisciplinary forum for scientists exploring cognition and its evolution; intellect; thinking; perception; consciousness; knowledge representation and acquisition; language as a means of cognition and communication; brain mechanisms of cognition, emotion and higher forms of behavior. Psychologists, linguists, neuroscientists, computer scientists, philosophers, anthropologists, specialists in education, artificial intelligence, neuroinformatics and cognitive ergonomics, as well as other researchers interested in interdisciplinary research on cognition are invited to participate in the conference. The conference program will include lectures by leading experts in multidisciplinary cognitive studies. International science camp for young people MILLENNIUM YOUTH CAMP 2010

The first-ever international Millennium Youth Camp (MY Camp) will be organized in Helsinki 6-13 June 2010. This is the week when the Winner of the 2010 Millennium Technology Prize will be announced.

MY Camp is targeted at young people (16-19 years) from all parts of the world whose interests lie in mathematics, the natural sciences, information technology and other technologies. There will be 30 participants, 10 from Finland, and all the educational activities, travel, accommodation and food will be provided free of charge. Participants will be selected on the basis of individual applications using a two-stage process. The application period began on 9 October and the first stage will end on 30 November 2009. The names of the successful applicants will be announced by 15 March 2010.

The multi-faceted MY Camp programme is based on three fundamental pillars - science, technology and nature - and includes lectures, workshops, visits to companies and universities and time for enjoyable social activities. The main themes are Environmental Science and Technology (climate change, renewable natural resources, renewable energy, water), Information and Communication Technology and digitalisation, and Applied Mathematics. One of the high points in the programme will be the opportunity for MY Camp participants to attend the Millennium Technology Prize Award Ceremony, during which the winning innovation will receive an award of one million euros.

Invitation to the 5th Eastern and Central European Software Engineering Conference in Russia

CEE SECR 2009 will take place on October 27-29 in Moscow. The conference will offer a program of events, including keynote talks by leaders in the field, invited presentations along specialized themes, workshops, five round table discussions and presentations of technical papers on software research, the cutting edge of practice, and new developments in software engineering. This year the conference program includes over 120 presentations: seven keynotes, nine invited talks, about ten sponsors' presentations, more than fifty oral presentations and forty posters.

The contest has attracted more than 140 articles from 21 countries worldwide, 35% of them were accepted as oral presentations and 25% were accepted as poster presentations. Each oral presentation will take 30 minutes in the conference program. This time includes also answers to questions from the audience.

WPMC symposium

September 8-11, 2008

At the 11th International Symposium on Wireless Personal Multimedia Communications (WPMC'08) a special session for FRUCT presentations was organized. After thorough review procedure, seven articles written by the FRUCT research teams were chosen, and the authors were funded to attend the symposium and present their research results.

 

WidSets coding contest

May 30, 2008

At the third FRUCT seminar a WidSets coding contest was organized. Fifteen Widgets were presented to the jury, and after careful consideration, a WITRIS widget was chosen as the winner. The author, Alexander Sidorenko, was given a NOKIA N95 8Gb phone as an award. Two recognition awards were given to Anna Ukhanova for widget that got most points in FRUCT voting (SMS-Translit) and to Mikhail Zemlyanukha for the first contribution and active participant in the contest (Color Lines and Omega Calculator).

 

Symbian hands-on session

May 21, 2008

A hands-on crash course on developing sensor and location aware applications for S60 devices was organized at the third FRUCT seminar. The purpose of the session was to help the participants get started or to get assistance on using these technologies. Two tutorials were given by the leading lecturers from Nokia Forum and Symbian Academy.
