Scope and purpose
The purpose of the first open international M3 semantic interoperability workshop is to give a possibility for students, researchers and organisations interested in semantic interoperability solutions based on Smart-M3 or M3 concept to meet, to present their results, and to discuss on how we should continue the development of the concept. M3 concept and Smart-M3 open source solution were originally developed in Artemis Sofia-project and in Finnish national DIEM project, but after these projects ended, the development has been more scattered and coordination has been missing. At the same time the need for semantic interoperability solutions has increased and M3 type of functionalities are used in addition to original device interoperability purposes also as semantic information repositories and discovery solutions in smart spaces and Internet of Things. There are also lot of discussions related to extending semantic web and Linked Data concepts towards embedded system and cyber-physical system domains.
The workshop will focus on following topics:
• Sharing the status of M3 related activities and creation of a common understanding what has been done so far. The target outcome could be a list of alternative implementations and their characteristics.
• Presenting the research and development status of M3 solutions and applications done on using the M3. Discussing and analysing the possibilities and challenges related to M3. Understanding what are the lessons learnt so far.
• Creation of the vision for development of M3. Understanding the focus areas and the role of M3 in them.
• Discussion about M3 community. How we should organise and what should be the targets of the community.
The workshop programme will consist of a keynote talks, presentation based on participant contributions, and group works related to the future of M3 and the M3 community.
Contribution proposal guidelines
We expect that all workshop contributions shall be maximum of one A4 page abstracts/description in PDF or word format. Please submit your contributions by e-mail to juha-pekka.soininen<at>vtt.fi. Abstract due date is September 29, 2013. notification is October 15, 2013. Camera-Ready PDF slides due date is at the workshop. The proposals are reviewed by organising committee and most relevant proposals are selected to be presented at the workshop. Contribution proposals can be on (but are not limited to) the following topics:
• Technical work related to Smart-M3 or M3 concept development
• Presentation or demonstration of Smart-M3 or M3 use or applications
• Analyses on the status and usability of M3 concept
• Proposals on how M3 community should be organised
All technical presentations (abstract + slides/or maximum 4 page description of a demo) will be published as a technical report in Åbo Akademi technical reports publication series after the workshop.
Please note: that this workshop has separate publishing procedure and the above process is mandatory and enough to submit your research. But, if in addition you want to publish a paper on Smart Spaces in FRUCT proceedings then please use standard FRUCT SUBMIT web tool for full papers (min 6 pages and up to 12 pages) and extended abstracts (min 200 words, max 5 pages) for project in progress and poster/demo by September 30, 2013. The acceptance notification deadline is October 14, 2013. Deadline for camera-ready submission is October 21, 2013.
Registration of participants
Registration to the workshop is free of charge and the registration form is available at the bottom of this page.
